Look out for the giant croissant on the balcony to find one of the best cafes with amazing coffee and even better pastries. Founded by four time Malaysian Barista Champion of the years 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2024 Jason Loo. Who funnily enough got his start not in coffee but in pastry making.

A majority of cafes that we go to today adopt a modern, trendy design to enhance their ambience, and pull in more people. Contour has gone the complete opposite direction and embraced the nostalgic charm of the neighbourhood that it is situated in and has instead accentuated the unique elements of old architecture. The interior has beautiful tall ceilings that is both minimal yet elegant at the same time that blends perfectly with the neighbourhoods old school vibes; with the slightest touch modern. Even though seating is available both upstairs and downstairs, it does fill up quite fast.

When first walking in, one will be greeted by an assortment of pastries both sweet and savoury! It doesn’t stop there they have bread too from, sourdough to focaccia. You are spoiled for choices!

Right next to the display of food is where the real magic happens: the barista bar. Loo shared with the Malay Mail that “ I opt for the Ethiopia Hamasho beans for my espresso, which is sweet, balanced and has a syrupy body. Just a light acidity, everything I would want from an espresso, which is a better gauge of a café’s calibre than a cappuccino or flat white in which the coffee is masked by milk.”

All the coffee beans are also roasted in a dedicated roasting room at the back of the shop.

Loo continues by saying “By roasting my own beans, I get to create the exact flavour profile that I like,” “I first learned this first hand when I was coached by and working with the late Joey Mah, who would travel around the world inspecting beans at different coffee farms.”
